Schibsted has introduced a new option for subscribers of VG, Aftenposten, and Bergens Tidende. Either consentAre you okay with your personal data being used for personalized advertising, or will you pay an additional 39 kroner per month on top of your subscription. The Director of the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Line Coll, states plainly that privacy is a human right, not something you should have to pay for. The Norwegian Data Protection Authority believes consent is unlikely to be voluntary when the alternative costs money—especially for those with limited financial means.
**Practical point:**
Does your business use «consent or pay» models on your website or in your services? The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has stated that such consent is rarely valid. Check if your customers have a real and free alternative to being tracked.
